PNM offers many great electrification rebates and programs, but it is not always clear how to combine them. Always check the website for updates and fine print on rebate limits and technical requirements. Contact PNM if you have questions.
To make your home more comfortable and affordable explore the full range of their offerings. Installing more electric appliances will likely increase your electricity bill especially if you use natural gas now. So always weatherize first. Then consider a Time-of-Use plan for less expensive rates when electricity is cheaper. If you sign up for the Power Saver plan, you receive a free smart thermostat and a small sign-on and annual bonus. PNM is currently running a time of day pilot. Need a heat pump or other HVAC? There are two main PNM programs. The Home Energy Checkup (HEC) offers rebates for replacing less efficient or older models. It requires a home visit first and is currently being revamped. The Midstream program for heating and cooling offers discounts through a distributer, which your contractor may pass along to you on your invoice.
For other equipment there are additional rebates for recycling and coupons for buying products via certain retailers. See the Overview table below.
A good strategy:
(1) See if the age/technical requirements of the appliance you are replacing qualifies for the HEC rebate.
(2) If so, apply for the HEC program if you haven’t already. Take a photo of your exiting appliance. Check out any other coupons/rebates listed below.
(3) Find contractors who have been trained for the Midstream and the HEC programs. Get at least 3 quotes to ensure you are getting the best price and contractor for you.
(4) Ask your contractor to confirm that the model is eligible for any state tax credits. Ask for the documentation you will need to apply for the credit.
(5) After the install apply for the HEC rebate if applicable and a state Certificate of Eligibility which you will file with your taxes.
If you are a NM gas customer you might use their insulation and sealing rebates to weatherize (PNM has an insulation rebate too). And always check for state tax credits – but make sure that the product meets both the PNM and New Mexico state technical requirements. The table below outlines PNM’s different rebate programs. In some cases you may combine more than one PNM rebate. For example, for a heat pump clothes dryer, you could receive a Home Energy Checkup (HEC) Early Replacement rebate of $75 (if you are replacing a clothes dryer manufactured in 2014 or earlier and have enrolled in the HEC program) and also apply for an $165 online appliance rebate.
If your income is limited explore no-cost assistance programs first.
