Senate Bill #489: Energy Transition Act
On Friday March 22nd 2019 at a ceremony in the Roundhouse, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed it into law! The bill passed both the House (43-22) and the Senate (32-9)
The ETA was celebrated in the national press as well, as New Mexico is only the third state in the nation to commit to 100% clean energy, and our standards are arguably the strongest.
New Mexico is now committed to a 100% clean energy future by 2045, with 50% by 2030, 80% by 2040. And it provides a just transition for the Farmington community as the coal-fired San Juan Generating station is closed.
